Visit Adney Gap

NPS
Take a scenic drive through Adney Gap around milepost 136 and experience one of the many mountain gaps that provided an important early tool in traversing the surrounding hills and mountains. Thomas Adney, the gap’s namesake, came to America in the 1760s and eventually settled in what was then Franklin County after the Revolution. In 1798, he purchased the land that would be later called Adney Gap and lived there for the remainder of his life.
The elevation at the gap is 2664ft and the peaks of the nearby mountains reach around 3320ft and 3360ft. The 8.3 mile stretch going South between Adney Gap and Pine Spur Gap was one of the first sections of the Parkway constructed.
Adney Gap connects to US-221, going north on this road will take you down Bent Mountain and into the city of Roanoke, going south you will pass through several small communities on the way to Floyd.
