Invite a park ranger from Scotts Bluff National Monument into your classroom. In this fun and engaging curriculum-based, social studies lesson students will work together to: 

  • Develop a definition of what a “symbol” is.
  • Describe a few symbols of the United States; including Mount Rushmore, the American Flag, the Washington Monument, and the Statue of Liberty.
  • Create the classroom's very own symbol in dressing a student up like the State of Liberty and discussing the symbolism behind her torch, tablet, crown, and shackles.
