Discover Pictured Rocks’ Every Kid Outdoors 4th Grade Program! The experience begins with a Ranger-led classroom visit prior to the field trip, continues with an immersive field trip, and concludes with a Ranger-led classroom visit that brings it all together.
This three-visit learning model connects 4th graders to the outdoors before, during, and after their adventure.
Classroom Pre-Visit: A Ranger visits your classroom to introduce students to Pictured Rocks, Great Lakes ecosystems, and key concepts like ecosystem connections, winter adaptations, and stewardship through interactive activities. (1 hour)
In-Park Field-Trip: Students explore the Pictured Rocks ecosystem through three immersive Ranger-led stations: a snowshoe hike exploring how trees survive winter, tracking and hunting games in the forest focused on predator-prey relationships and animal adaptations, and an Augmented Reality Sandbox indoor activity exploring topography, watersheds, water flow, and erosion. (3 hours)
Classroom Post-Visit: A Ranger returns to the classroom to help students reflect on their experience and investigate invasive species, ecological balance, and their role as stewards of Pictured Rocks and public lands. (1 hour)
