Field Trip: Secretary of the Treasury Board Game

Albert Gallatin saw his major goal while Secretary of the Treasury to keep the federal budget balanced and erase the national debt.

The students will be divided into teams and participate in a group board game with the park ranger explaining and guiding the class. The game represents one federal fiscal year during Gallatin's term as secretary.The teams must navigate with their budgeted amount of money and avoid overspending, growing debt and possible bankruptcy.The team with the most money to be put towards the debt at the end of the game wins.

This program is offered weekdays in the spring and the fall. The program lasts about 45 minutes. Please email the staff or call 724-329-2503 to check availability.

Materials

This lesson is a good pre-visit activity before attending the field trip.
