Battle of New Orleans - PreVisit Activities

Through a timeline and mapping activity, students will learn the major events of the War of 1812 and the New Orleans campaign and be able to put them into a timeline. They will understand the importance of water trade routes during the period and learn why New Orleans was such an important port---and a prize that Great Britain hoped to capture. 

Timeline activity: Students will learn the major events of the War of 1812, the New Orleans campaign, and the Battle of New Orleans and be able to put them into a relative chronology.

Putting New Orleans on the Map activity: Students will practice atlas and map skills by understanding a map of the United States in 1815 and finding important cities and regions on the map. Students will understand the importance of water trade routes in the early United States and discover why New Orleans was a crucial port.
