How can studying the past change the future?

Objective

Create a research project from information gained through different sources. Allow students to research other prominent people of events in history to see how we learn from the past to improve our future.

Background

This is a follow-on lesson for Back to the Future. 

Preparation

Have printed copies of graphic organizers on hand for brainstorming phase.

This exercise can be completed after a tour of the Birthplace Home National Historic Site on-site or back in the classroom. Our hope is that the site's involvement would be an enhancement to one of your Project-based Learning programs.

Consider using the Writers Workshop sequence as the students should already be accustomed to this format.

Assessment Materials

Day at the Museum

Students will research a person or event. Compare and contrast their findings with the known history of President Clinton, their own lineage and that of the person researched. Students will create a display, poster, exhibit, PowerPoint presentation or one-scene play for their peers.

Project should follow "Writers Workshop" sequence for measurable results.
