Program Format:
1. This program begins with a brief introduction to the National Park Service.
2. What the Homestead Act of 1862 was and how it brought people west to settle.
3. Students will compare and contrast life in a classroom in 1872 and today.
4. Summary and questions.

The course structure includes lecture, visual aids and videos.


Objectives   

1. Develop an understanding of the Homestead Act of 1862.
2. Compare and contrast a school day in 1872 with that of one today.
