In 2011, the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers Discover Our Shared Heritage travel itinerary was produced by the National Park Service Heritage Education Services and Federal Preservation Institute, in partnership with the Department of Veterans Affairs Historic Preservation Office, the National Preservation Institute, and the National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers. The site was updated and designed by Bill Arey in November 2017 for the Cultural Resources Office of Interpretation and Education.

The National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers travel itinerary is based primarily on registration information on historic places in the National Park Service's National Register of Historic Places and National Historic Landmarks collections
