NPS Regulations and Policies

The National Park System is governed by regulations and management policies that provide for the proper use, management, government, and protection of persons, property, and natural and cultural resources within areas under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service.

Adherence to these regulations and policies is mandatory unless specifically waived or modified by the Secretary of the Interior or the Director of the NPS. These regulations and policies will thus guide response actions taken on park lands or waters.

Appropriate coordination and pre-planning between the NPS and the spill response community will ensure that any applicable regulations or policies will not unreasonably impede the efficiency or effectiveness of any response actions.

Contact the NPS Spill Response Coordinator to learn more about participating in pre-planning or response coordination efforts.
