NPS

The national monument site consists of a parking lot and a grass section. The parking lot can be noisy as vehicles drive around. Two roads running next to the park can produce loud traffic sounds. The site is also located next to a hospital. Ambulances, helicopters, and emergency vehicles can be very loud as they pass by. There are also active train tracks that run through the site. The tracks can produce rumbling or screeching sounds, and the trains can use very loud horns. These very loud sounds can occur suddenly and unexpectedly.

Strong smells may be present throughout the site. Smells from vehicles on the road or trains on the tracks can occur.

There is no shade available at the site. The pavement on the parking lot can get very hot in the summer.

The visitor center is a one-room lobby area. The visitor center can get very busy, crowded, and noisy during busy seasons, particularly in the spring and summer. Tour guides will often make announcements before the beginning of their tour which can be loud. In case of an emergency, the fire alarm is also quite loud.

There are several small exhibits around the visitor center for the Lincoln Home. Many are behind protective cases, but there is a tactile exhibit which visitors are welcome to touch. The tactile exhibit showcases materials and objects that can be found inside the Lincoln Home. It is located on the north side of the visitor center, near the restrooms.

There are several benches and seats available inside the visitor center as places of rest. Picnic tables and benches are also located outside the visitor center.
