Springfield 1908 Race Riot National Monument is a new national park. Extensive and positive feedback from the public, local leaders, and key stakeholders including the NAACP, City of Springfield, and Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS St. John’s Hospital), helped to inform NPS’ evaluation that the archeological site met all four criteria necessary to be considered eligible for inclusion in the National Park System.

Over the coming years, the National Park Service will work with the local community and partners to plan for future development and visitor experiences associated with the new park.

The National Park Service has thousands of partner organizations that work with us on projects and programs in parks and communities around the nation. Learn more about partnership opportunities with the National Park Service around the nation.
