With less than 10 days to go before handover, final details are being tended to at the site. Parking striping is about to begin, and safety railings are going up in require areas. Of course, landscaping continues, and the addition of split rail fencing is adding to the overall visual appeal of the site. Lastly, our flagpole is installed, and in addition to hosting flags serves as both a radio transmitter and receiver allowing much improved radio communications across the southern end of the island.
It’s important to note that all crew members are employing all those health and safety measure that we are all practicing, including social distancing. Work crew members are being monitored regularly, and sanitation facilities are available for the crew. While the project is certainly important, the health and safety of employees and workers is much more important.

(A) Landscaping around the site continues, here seen on the south side of the visitor center. You will notice the new flagpole that has been set in the foreground. This flagpole doubles as a radio receiver and transmitter allowing rangers far better communications around the park and extending to headquarters in town.

(B) In addition to landscaping, split rail fencing is going up in strategic locations to maintain the integrity of landscaping and wild areas and allowing native plants to thrive without disturbances.

(C) Handrailing is an important component of the overall safety protocol for the site. Safety railing keeps visitors safe and provides necessary separation between transportation features and landscaped or wild portions of the site.

(D) Entering the home stretch, almost ready for visitors, we now see final details being added. Here, concrete wheel stops for the parking area have arrived just as workers are marking pavement in preparation for striping.
