Update: Site Observation Update Week June 22nd
June 22nd, eight months after beginning the visitor center construction project, and we see in the photos that follow a project growing ever closer to completion.
This week, the concrete plaza slab pours and formwork at the entry are getting closer to completion. Roofing work is now essentially complete. The trellis work (overhead purlin installation) is continuing at the interpretive plaza and is also nearly complete. A major piece of work advanced this week at the site of the drain field for the septic system. A drain field perimeter curtain drain has been installed and backfilled with archeologist on site monitoring all excavation activities. No items of note were uncovered. Electrical rough-in work is substantially complete, and the sub-contractor has left the site. So, with only about 3 months remaining, the project is on time, and with each passing day we’re growing increasingly excited to move in.
It’s important to note that all crew members are employing all those health and safety measure that we are all practicing, including social distancing. Work crew members are being monitored regularly, and sanitation facilities are available for the crew. While the project is certainly important, the health and safety of employees and workers is much more important.
(A) Most visitor centers in the park service have space at the entrance for visitors to congregate and for rangers to do talks, and ours is no exception. Here we see the large concrete plaza outside the front door.
(B) In photo (B) above, a worker finishes concrete for the walkway outside of the
restrooms and wrapping around to the front entrance.
(C) Photo (C) above is a wide angel shot of the septic drain field which is quite
in order to accommodate visitor numbers now and into the future. In the foreground
e see a curtain drain which separates the drain field from the surrounding environment.
(D) Beautiful! Here we see the completed two half circle trellises at the interpretive
plaza. The trellis work will provide for the installation of display panels yet to come.
(E) We’re getting closer. Phot (E) shows the beginning of installation of the sheet
rock that covers interior walls.
