The OASLC provides support for research in a variety of ways. In all cases, we look for high quality research projects that address critical issues facing marine and coastal resources in Alaska's National Parks and adjacent waters. We also look to leverage the expertise and resources of partners to accomplish the work.

Press Releases and Resource Briefs

The OASLC staff collaborates with park staff from a variety of disciplines as well as natural resource staff with Alaska's Southeast and Southwest Inventory and Monitoring Networks (I&M) in developing and providing press releases to local and national newspapers. The OASLC focuses on park science projects and works with park and I&M staff in developing press releases to spark the interest of news outlets both locally and throughout the country. The OASLC posts current and past press releases on the OASLC website, as well as links to where these releases are housed on park and I&M sites.

The OASLC staff also collaborates with park staff and I&M networks in producing resource briefs. These documents are an effort to disseminate information about both completed and ongoing ecosystem monitoring projects taking place within the 11 coastal parks. The OASLC works with park and I&M staff in determining who main audience will be when drafting these resource briefs, as well as working with staff in order to determine the best ways to disseminate resource brief information (for example: websites, interpretive training, and/or presentations). The OASLC posts current and past resource briefs on the OASLC website, as well as links to where these briefs are housed on park and I&M sites.

Marine Science News

The Ocean Alaska Science and Learning Center not only promotes scientific research and stewardship in all of Alaska's coastal national parks, but is dedicated to increase the awareness of ocean issues.

This page features articles that not only explore these subjects, but other interesting and pertinent marine topics that will demonstrate how all of Alaska's coastal national parks are connected. Discover and explore with us!

Projects Receiving Direct Support

The Ocean Alaska Science and Learning Center (OASLC) has provided direct financial support to a variety of projects over the years. Explore the links provided on this page to learn how the OASLC assists marine and coastal research projects in Alaska.

The Alaska Region has benefited from technical assistance calls focusing on coastal and marine resources throughout Alaska. Those calls include the "Alaska Coastal Marine Resources Grant" and the "Pacific Ocean Parks Technical Assistance Call." The OASLC managed a separate coastal grant program, the Pacific Ocean Parks Technical Assistance Call, though OASLC base funds to support projects.
