Siege 1777: Battle of Oriskany Commemoration

    Join park staff, volunteers, and descendents of battle participants for a solemn ceremony honoring those who defended their land and sacrificed their lives in one of the bloodiest battles of the American Revolution. This 1-hour evening event begins at 7 pm and will include wreath laying, a flag ceremony, and musket salutes. 
     

    Oriskany Battlefield State Historic Site is currently open 7 days a week from dawn to dusk; the site's parking lot is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission to the site is free. Through a partnership between the National Park Service and the New York State Office Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation, national park rangers provide daily visitor services as well as special programs at the battlefield.     The day's event  also include:

    10:45 am: The Message - Discover how the arival of General Herkimer's three messengers helped to save lives, & led to a major blow to Fort Stanwix's enemy attackers.

    2:45 pm: Willett's Sortie - Become one of the 250 soldeirs that particpated in the sortie that saved Herkimer's militia, destroyed the American Indian & loyalist allies' camp, & retrieved much needed supplies for the besieged garison of Fort Stanwix.
