    Company L, Twenty-Fourth Infantry served in Skagway, Alaska from 1899 to 1902. Listen to author Brian Shellum speak about the African American soldiers of the unit, the officers who led them, how they came to be in Skagway, and what they accomplished in Alaska.

    Brian Shellum is a historian with a focus on African American military history whose third book, African American Officers in Liberia, A Pestiferous Rotation, 1910-1942, was just released by the University of Nebraska Press.
