National Public Lands Day

  • 09/22/2018 Location: Travertine Nature Center, Time: 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM Fee Information: Free

Chickasaw National Recreation Area invites the public to participate in National Public Lands Day park cleanup and restoration projects starting at 9:00 a.m. Visitors can learn more about National Public Lands Day by attending a ranger presentation at 2:00 p.m. All activities will begin at the Travertine Nature Center.

Volunteers are asked to wear sturdy shoes, work gloves, sun-protective clothing, and to bring plenty of water. Safety vests and work supplies will be provided.

Seeds collected from native prairie plants will be used in future grassland restoration projects within Chickasaw. Trash removed from trails and picnic areas helps protect wildlife and ecosystems from damage, while also improving the view for visitors. Trimming back Eastern Red Cedars prevents these hardy trees from taking over the park’s numerous hiking trails.
