150th Anniversary of the California State Park Ranger

    The California State Parks are commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the first State Park Ranger in 2016. Galen Clark, Yosemite’s first guardian, began his role protecting the park in 1866. The Yosemite Grant, which preserved Yosemite Valley and the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias, was first a state park, protected in 1864 by President Abraham Lincoln.

    The California State Parks will celebrate the history and heritage of the state park ranger at Yosemite’s Earth Day event. Join California State Parks and Yosemite National Park for a special commemoration onApril 23, 2016. There will be a special ceremony honoring the 150th Anniversary of the state park ranger at 2pm during the Earth Day Festival.
