One week before the signing of the Declaration of Independence, a group of 30 families from present-day Mexico arrived at the mouth of the Bay to establish the first non-Native settlement at San Francisco. The Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail commemorates their journey.

Each June, you can explore the legacy of Spanish California at San Francisco's birthplace -- el presidio de San Francisco.

These events bring to the Bay Area our friends from all along the Anza Trail, including Los Californianos, Amigos de Anza, the Anza Trail Color Guard, the Presidio Trust, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and many more!
