    157th Anniversary of the "Contraband Decision" - Commemoration Ceremony

    A ceremonial commemoration of the events of May 24, 1861. On this date three enslaved men, Frank Baker, James Townsend, and Sheppard Mallory, took action and sought their freedom and sanctuary behind Union lines at Fort Monroe. 

    The commemoration ceremony will feature living history interpretation and conclude with a candlelight vigil for Baker, Townsend, Mallory, and the thousands of freedom seekers that followed them.
