On Sunday, May 27th at 1:00 pm, Volunteer in Parks, David Portolano, will be reading poetry and playing original songs on his guitar inspired by his time volunteering with the National Park Service.  Regular park entry fees apply.

“I have been trying to transcend from a confessional poet to more of a naturalist like John Muir.  I feel I have yet to really capture the essence of nature.  I am very influenced by Zen poetry and want to be able to use as few words as possible to make the reader feel as if they are in the park with me” Says David of his poetry.

David has been a lover of National Parks for as long as he can remember. Growing up, David’s father took him on many road trips across the country, always stopping when they saw the National Park Service arrowhead.  David began volunteering at Tuzigoot National Monument in 2016 and has since been also volunteering at Montezuma Castle National Monument.  In April, David became an Artist-in-Residence at Petrified Forest National Park.
