Lift Every Voice: A Savannah African American Historic Site Free Day

    Fort Pulaski will participate in Lift Every Voice: Savannah’s African American Historic Sites Free Days on Sunday, August 19, 2018. The park will offer special programming highlighting the enslaved people’s courageous escapes to Union lines following the fort’s recapture in 1862. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about post-emancipation life on the Sea Islands and lift their own voices about what freedom and bravery mean to them.

    Schedule of Activities:

    9:00-5:00 Self-guided African American History tour: pick up a tour map in the Visitor Center and explore on your own.
    10:00-4:00 Lift Every Voice Room: Explore the stories of former enslaved people who took refuge on Cockspur and other islands nearby during the Civil War. Share your own story about a time you were brave or about a place that makes you feel free.
