Celebrate National Public Lands Day, the 50th anniversary of the Wild & Scenic Rivers Act, the 50th anniversary of the National Trails System, and the "Year of the Bird" with a bird-themed morning on September 22, 2018.
Kick off the morning with a guided bird hike at 8:00 a.m., led by area experts from the Niobrara Council and the Northern Prairies Land Trust (Nebraska Game & Parks Commission). The hike will follow the 1-mile long Fort Falls trail within the Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge.
At 9:00, help clean and rehabilitate bluebird boxes throughout the Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge. These boxes are popular with Eastern Bluebirds and Tree Swallows.
At 10:00, we hope to have a researcher from UNL who will speak on raptors.
At 11:00, we hope to have a rehabilitator with live raptors.
This is event is co-hosted by the USFWS, Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge; the NPS, Niobrara National Scenic River; and the Sandhills Prairie Refuge Association.
