Live edge provides a way to celebrate the organic shapes of nature through a functional object that is beautiful and unique. In this class we will design and build a live edge piece. Participants will learn how to mill, connect, and finish natural edge furniture. We will learn how to work with irregular wood and overcome the challenges of cracks, pitting, and loose bark. The furniture can be made entirely out of natural edge lumber, or be constructed as a composition piece that incorporates both natural edge elements and components that will be designed and fabricated by the participant, such as turned legs and rails. Given the time allotted for the class, an ideal project is a bench, a stool or a small coffee table. We will provide local slabs of live edge timbers for purchase, but of course, participants are very welcome to bring inspiring lumber that that they own. Advanced Beginner and Beyond
