Description

On Saturday, February 24 at 11 am and again at 2 pm, the park will conduct a free 1-hour walking tour exploring the Black history roots of Craven Street in the heart of downtown Beaufort, SC. The tour will begin at the park visitor center at 706 Craven Street.

When Beaufort was first laid out in the early 1700s, Craven Street was envisioned to be the heart of the city, with the town square running right through the middle. As the Civil War and Reconstruction began, the street became a powerful avenue of Black social, political, economic, and military life. Join Ranger Chanda for this special tour exploring the history of this street that today is home to our park visitor center.

The walk will begin at the park visitor center at 706 Craven Street and will cover approximately 1 mile of walking along the sidewalks of Craven Street.
