Zoom Series: An Ohio Girl in Washington

James A Garfield National Historic Site

Special Event

  • Free

You may not realize that Lucretia Garfield’s role as First Lady was not the first obligation that took her to our Nation’s Capital.  She actually spent the better part of 11 years as a resident there.  Even some of her children were born in Washington, DC! Join this Ohio girl as she relates stories and shares photographs of the Garfield family’s time spent in Washington before James A. Garfield became the 20th US President.  What will the future hold as Lucretia becomes the nation’s hostess?  Does she have a special cause to promote?  How does she adjust to life in the Executive Mansion with a household of young children? Our virtual programs are great for those who live far away or are otherwise unable to visit James A. Garfield NHS. Programs will last about 45 minutes with time for Q & A afterwards. The link for this Zoom program is being provided by Mentor Public Library. E-mail jaga_interpretation@nps.gov to receive the link and log-in information.
