Description
Join us, along with local independent researcher Aneshia Savino (she/her, ze/zir, and they/them), as we learn a little about Dr. Marie Equi from her New Bedford childhood, the start of her activism in Suffrage, her Boston-like marriage and adopted daughter, and her Federal Trial and imprisonment. Let's explore why Dr. Equi might have left New Bedford as its population was booming, why she worked so hard for Laborers in the Northwest, and what her legacy holds for us today.
Aneshia Savino (she/her, ze/zir, and they/them) is an independent researcher and multimedia artist using dance and zines to explore southern Massachusetts' Labor and Queer history. Ze is curious about what makes local history and how it is shared through culture. Aneshia curates the Marie Equi Zine Library and volunteers with the Queer Arts Council of New Bedford.
