Description
10:30 AM, 1:30 PM- Wet Plate Photography Demonstration: Join volunteer John and Christine Milleker for a demonstration of the wet plate collodion photography process that Alexander Gardner used to create his iconic images of Antietam Battlefield in 1862. Program will take place just outside the Visitor Center—look for the Civil War tent. They will also have a station for children to make cyanotypes to take home with them.
11:15 AM, 2:15 PM- Antietam in 3-D: Take a fascinating 3-D journey into the bloodiest day of the Civil War when author and Civil War photo authority Bob Zeller presents a show featuring the stereographs of the Antietam battlefield taken by photographer Alexander Gardner in the wake of the battle of September 17, 1862. Wearing 3-D glasses, you’ll feel as if you can walk right into these stark and graphic battlefield scenes. Program will last approximately 45 minutes and take place in the Visitor Center auditorium.
12:15 PM, 3:15 PM- Photography Walk: Join Ranger Keith Snyder for a thirty-minute walk to the locations of some of the Alexander Gardner images and learn more about the stories behind the images. Program will meet by the sculpture outside the Visitor Center.
