Description

Irish immigrant Mary Jemison and her family arrived in Philadelphia in 1743. The family thrived in the western frontier of Pennsylvania until their settlement was raided by the French and their Indian allies. Jemison was adopted by the Seneca Nation, where she lived a traumatic life.  She later became a United States citizen and one of the biggest land holders in western New York State. Hear the story of the “White Woman of the Genesee.”
