Description

10:30 am -  Presentation on The Great New York Fire of 1776: A Lost Story of the American Revolution by Benjamin L. Carp

Benjamin L. Carp, whose book was featured in the 2023 Virtual Hamilton Book Club, is back to present in person for the first time at Hamilton Grange! Learn more about the fascinating story of the Great Fire of 1776 and why its origins remained a mystery even after the British investigated it in 1776 and 1783. Uncovering stories of espionage, terror, and radicalism, Benjamin L. Carp paints a vivid picture of the chaos, passions, and unresolved tragedies that define a historical moment we usually associate with “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

11:30 am - "Alexander Hamilton: A Personal Look" by Nicole Scholet

In this talk, AHA Society President Nicole Scholet will explore the intimate life of Alexander Hamilton, with a focus on his childhood in the Caribbean and his family. Many talks on the life of Alexander Hamilton have focused on his accomplishments and public service; to celebrate his birthday in the only house Hamilton ever built, join the AHA Society for a more intimate look into Hamilton's world in the 18th century.
