Description

Thirty Days of Stories on the Underground Railroad is a series of podcasts series created in celebration of September as International Underground Railroad Month. The Oldham County History Center is celebrating by recording a podcast story on the Underground Railroad to broadcast each day of September.

Escape of the 28 is read by Eleanor Bingham Miller, Director and Producer of Film Documentaries; Board member for Fons Vitae Publishing Company; member of the Louisville Chapter of Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ).

In this highly publicized event, John Fairfield led 28 fugitives out of Kentucky on April 2, 1853.  With the help of Underground Railroad Conductors like the Coffins in Cincinnati, the heralded group is met with fanfare and celebration when they reach the shores of Canada, where they were met by Henry Bibb, George DeBaptiste and Laura Haviland.
