Description
Celebrating National Park Week - Come and join Ranger George at the park's visitor center on Monday April 21, 2025 from 9 AM to 12 PM. You can learn how to make and play a kukui nut hū (candle nut spinning top). The kukui nut, also known as candlenut, is an incredible "canoe" plant with diverse uses. This tree is a significant plant in Hawaiian culture and is the state tree of Hawai'i. Its nuts are a valuable source of oil, traditionally used for lamps and torches, and are also used to make lei and a relish or seasoning called inamona. The bark, flowers, and nuts have been used for various medicinal purposes, including treating sores and fever. Don't miss this opportunity to learn about the kukui nut tree and its uses.
