Description

The River Raisin National Battlefield Park announces the Phenakistoscopes Craft Program on February 4, 2023, from 11am to noon and again from 1 to 2 pm. Join us at River Raisin National Battlefield Park, 333 Dixie Highway, Monroe.

In 1832 the phenakistoscope was invented as a toy with images and slits in it. When aimed at a mirror and spun, it was the first example of fluid motion where you view a series of images progressing. Although a toy, it was one of the fore runners of motion pictures.

You will leave with a pre-made phenakistoscope and one of your own. This program is free. Call the park to pre-register for this program at 734-243-7136.
