Description

Do you want to know more about how to care for a Chilkat robe, Raven's Tail robe, button robe or other textile-based regalia at home? If so, this workshop is for you! The park has invited Sarah Owens, an Alaska-based conservator with extensive experience caring for regalia to share ideas and answer questions.

This is a multi-part workshop:

  • Part 1 is a presentation on what can harm textiles and how to care for them at home
  • Part 2 is a demonstration of techniques, with an emphasis on what to do when you don't have fancy museum equipment.

There will be a lunch break before Part 3.

  • Part 3 is a group discussion of best practices for storing, cleaning, and traveling with regalia.

Feel free to bring regalia with you. This is an excellent opportunity to get thoughts from a skilled conservator who has worked with many individuals and museums.

This workshop will be conducted as safely as possible to prevent exposure to COVID-19. Participation is limited to give people plenty of space to spread out. Since the workshop takes place indoors, masks will be required for everyone. Participants will be asked to self-screen for warning signs before entering. If you have questions about safety measures, please call; we want to do what we can to keep our community healthy.
