Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will present a special ranger-led 1-hour, 1-mile, hike exploring the story of Lieutenant Howard M. Burnham’s Battery on September 19, 1863. This program will begin at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center, then car caravan to the hiking location.

On September 19, fighting in the woods just west of Jay’s Mill swirled back and forth as both sides clashed, setting the stage for how the Battle of Chickamauga would largely be fought. Howard Burnham and his battery’s story illustrated this drama and tragedy. Join us as we take advantage of the lack of foliage to see the ground better and gain insights into these events of 1863.

Please make sure to dress appropriately for conditions and wear comfortable shoes.
