Description

Richland Parks and Recreation along with the Manhattan Project National Historical Park and the Richland Public Library are again presenting the popular “Pop Up Play Days” for the community, but with a twist. They will be held virtually! Beginning Wednesday, June 24, and every other Wednesday for 12 weeks, a new ranger video will be introduced on-line. Aspiring Junior Rangers may earn a special Junior Ranger patch or pin if they complete six of the 9 activities in the Junior Ranger Passport. Pop Up Play Days are free family fun.

With the overall theme of Engineering a Community, Junior Rangers will explore diverse topics like how to geocache, build a beaver dam, and learn about the world-changing events of the Manhattan Project. Activities also include gardening, scavenger hunts, pet yoga, and more to engage kids’ imaginations and creativity.

The best part is that the activities can be completed any time after it’s launched. Participants can complete the program at their own pace and the web page will be kept active through December.

The Manhattan Project was a massive top-secret project charged with developing the world’s first atomic weapons during World War II. The Manhattan Project National Historical Park, established in 2015, shares the sights, stories, and legacies of the Manhattan Project.

The partners are excited to offer this program to the community to explore, learn, and enjoy our local parks and the fascinating history that changed the world.
