Artist in Residence at Kahuku - Author Leah Newsom

Award-winning writer Leah Newsom is the National Park Arts Foundation Artist in Residence for June 2024. From Phoenix, Arizona, she holds an MFA in creative writing from Arizona State University and is a creative writing instructor there. She has been featured in publications such as Conjunctions, Ninth Letter, Juked, and Passages North, and has also received the Virginia G. Piper Global Residency Fellowship

She will talk about her creative process and her forthcoming novel, which addresses contemporary issues, including health tourism, colonialism, climate change, and ecological crises. She poses profound questions about healing – both individual and communal – and envisions pathways toward reconciliation with the Earth.
