Description

Hike with Ranger Nico to say farewell to the day from Sandstone Peak, the highest point in Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.

During this hike, you will learn how the mountains have a relationship with people and influence our choices and daily life.

This is a 3 mile (round trip) strenuous hike. There is a 1,000 foot elevation gain.

Bring water, sturdy shoes, a headlamp, and layers for cooler temperatures. The presentation will conclude at the peak and the ranger will walk back when the sun sets. Visitors are welcome to hike back to the parking lot with Ranger Nico, stay on the peak, or hike down on their own.

Don’t forget a headlamp or flashlight!

Please meet at the Sandstone Peak Trailhead at 5:30 p.m. Hike begins @ 5:30, please arrive 15-20 mins early to use restroom and prep for your hike. Winding roads will slow travel time. There is very little cell reception in this area. Directions are posted below.
