LOCATION CHANGE: This event will now be held at Lyndon Baines Johnson Memorial Grove on Columbia Island from 10:00-1:00. Due to a wildlife management situation, the event will no longer be held on Theodore Roosevelt Island. 

Juneteenth is a national holiday that commemorates the June 19, 1865 announcement of the abolition of slavery. This year the holiday will be commemorated on Monday, June 19th at Lyndon Baines Johnson Memorial Grove with a series of talks, presentations, and activities.

Theodore Roosevelt Island was the former training ground of the First U.S. Colored Troops. It was then a Freedman Village where formally enslaved people lived before they moved on to a more independent life after emancipation.

• Drumming, Dancing, Art in Park Activity, Exhibit

• First U.S. Colored Troops Junior Ranger Program

• Speaker, Musician, Interdisciplinary Artist, LaTreice V. Brunson, will perform a work called Urban Jungle

• United States Colored Troops Reenactor
