Forrest: From Ft. Heiman to Johnsonville
Join a Park Ranger for a short hiking tour commemorating the 162nd Anniversary of Nathan Bedford Forrest's raid on Johnsonville.
As General William T. Sherman began his march from Atlanta to Savanah, Confederate Major General Nathan Bedford Forrest began riding through northwest Central Tennessee with plans to raid supply lines and riverboat traffic to slow down Sherman's march. He used Fort Heiman as a staging ground for his raid on the supply depot at Johnsonville. Learn more about his time at Fort Heiman and the lead up to one of the more destructive raids of the Civil War.
