Description
The Great Falls Tavern Visitor Center classroom is open for visitors to participate in self-directed hands-on activities related to the canal.
During July, we’re talking about Leave No Trace! The C&O Canal practices Leave No Trace principles! The park is a trash-free park and asks visitors to pack in and pack out their trash. What other ways do you practice Leave No Trace when you visit the canal?
Learn about the seven Leave No Trace principles and the numerous ways visitor actions help to reduce the impact of humans on the canal environment and ecosystems along the Potomac River. Discover the decomposition rates for commonly discarded items. Explore the connections between the Leave No Trace principles and impacts from people and changing climates on rare, threatened, and endangered species who live in the canal ecosystems.
Come visit the classroom at the Great Falls Tavern to participate in the activities. The classroom is open Wednesday to Sunday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
