Artist in Residence Live Performance

Joshua Tree National Park

Stop by Cap Rock to meet Artist in Residence Scott Kildall and see him play the Joshua Trees like an electronic theremin in a live performance.

From the artist: I am fascinated by the invisible world of natural data. We often can’t see, hear, smell or taste it, but it’s there in the form of electrochemical activity in plants, water flow in trees, particulates in the air, pollution in the water and more. My work lifts the veil into this world, using electronic sensors to track such live data then translate it into soundscapes.

At Joshua Tree National Park, I will use an infrared sensor embedded in a glove, and move my hand over different parts of the tree in a performance that communes with them. What you will hear is music that changes as I move my sensor glove, capturing this invisible data and playing it for everyone to hear.
