Below are the specific programs for each date. Please note: programs are subject to change.
June 7, 2025
Tree ID for Birders: Looking for a woodpecker? Warbler? Maybe a hawk? Recognizing the plants different birds like to nest in (or snack on!) will help you find them more easily. Join a park ranger to learn which plants attract which types of birds and how to identify both. Gain a new tool to help you find your favorite birds with plant identification. Binoculars will be provided.
June 14, 2025
Jamaica Bay: Refuge for Wildlife; Refuge for People: Join a park ranger on a tour to learn all about Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge! Together we'll focus on the plants, animals, and geography that makes this place so special. We will incorporate some meditative practices as well to find new ways to enhance our experiences in nature.
June 21, 2025
Plants, Birds, and People: Reflecting on Jamaica Bay: Together we will look, listen, and smell our way around the refuge in search of birds, plants, insects, and features of the area that make the refuge a one-of-a-kind home to its inhabitants. After a nature walk, we will take a moment to reflect on what it means to be a refuge for wildlife in the middle of one of the busiest cities in the world. Binoculars will be provided.
