BYOBike Bash
Biking on the C&O Canal is always an adventure!
Join us on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at Cushwa Basin to bike, plan, and learn about how to safely ride 184.5 miles of towpath.
Park staff and volunteers will be available to answer questions about bike safety along the C&O Canal.
Bike Tours:
10AM – Bike the Canal 101: 1 mile ride around Cushwa Basin vicinity of towpath, introducing canal structures such as: crossing lock bridges, rail trail, rail lift bridge, signage, stopping and walking across aqueducts. Ride will be on a gravel, flat surface and should take no more than 1 hour. Meet at Cushwa Picnic Area.
1:30PM – Bike the Canal 102: 5 mile round trip from Cushwa Basin to Jordan Junction, introducing canal structures such as: crossing lock bridges, rail trail, rail lift bridge, signage, stopping and walking across aqueducts, and nearest hiker-biker campground. Best suited for those who want to learn the canal amenities to plan their future trip. Ride will be on a gravel and flat surfaces and should take no more than 1.5-2 hours. Meet at Cushwa Picnic Area.
