Off-The-Beaten-Path Hike: Canyonlands Unit

Big Thicket National Preserve

  • Free

Go off the beaten path in the Big Thicket!

Explore the rugged scenery of the rarely-visited Canyonlands Unit with a park ranger. If you like adventure, this hike is for you!

This is not a typical ranger-led hike on a flat, maintained trail. The hiking conditions will range from walking along a dirt road to off-trail hiking through the woods for over 4 miles. Participants may have to navigate inclines, fallen trees, and shallow water crossings.

Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Bring water, snacks, and insect repellent. Getting to the site requires driving on a dirt road, which may be muddy.
