Description
**Due to weather conditions, this program has been cancelled for May 3rd**
Exploring the Sky is a joint program between the National Capital Astronomers and Rock Creek Park and has run since 1948. Rock Creek Park is not an ideal dark sky location, but we can still see solar system objects and even a few deep sky objects. Join members of National Capital Astronomers to engage in astronomical observation in this special, after-hours event!
Telescopes will be setup in the field at the corner of Military Road and Glover Road. Parking is available at Picnic Grove #13
If you arrive an hour early, at the Nature Center, you can enjoy a ranger-led program in the only planetarium in the National Park Service! Program topics vary from discussions about the planets and the night sky, real-time views of the planets and stars on a dome shaped screen and planetarium films. Arrive 30 minutes early to pick up a free place holder ticket for the show.
Information on joining the National Capital Astronomers, which is 86 years old, can be found at https://capitalastronomers.org. Join us for an evening of celestial wonder!
