Lynn & Jane Quam (Zuni stone carvers)
Meet Jayne and Lynn Quam, Zuni Stone Carvers, at the Watchtower from 9 am to 4 pm.
- They have been creating traditional Zuni fetishes for over 30 years and have won multiple awards for their work.
- "In 1980 I carved my first animal fetish and received an order for more," Jayne says. "A few years later we began going to shows. As the years go by, we gain new experiences with different stones. Our ideas for new designs are coming to life every day.”
-
"I carve all kinds of animals. My favorite pieces to carve are buffalos and bears," Lynn says.
Meet and talk with the demonstrators while they create and showcase their art at the Desert View Watchtower on the South Rim at the Desert View developed area at the eastern entrance to the park.
- The Cultural Demonstration program provides an opportunity for park visitors and community members to interact with tribal artisans from Grand Canyon's traditionally associated tribes - and for them to share their history and crafts, along with the skills, knowledge, and efforts involved in creating their craft and art.
- This series is made possible with grants from Grand Canyon Conservancy.
