Free. All programs offered by the National Lakeshore are free. Participants need only purchase the park entrance pass or have an annual pass displayed in their vehicle to join in the fun.

Description

Sleeping Bear Dunes is home to hundreds of tree species. While it may be challenging to identify them without leaves, it is certainly not an impossible task! Hike 1-1.5 miles with rangers to learn how to identify trees and practice identifying them yourself! 

Preregistration is required. Plan to meet park rangers at 10 am at the Phillip A. Hart Visitor Center for an introduction.  From here, the group will caravan to the Shauger Hill trail location.   

This trail is closed to pets from December 1 through March 31. 

 

Important:

Programs may be cancelled or the location may change due to snow conditions or winter temperatures.

The decision to cancel or change the location is made two hours in advance. Please call 231-326-4700, ext. 5005, for a voicemail message with the final details.

Programs should be assumed cancelled if Leelanau County or Benzie County are under a "Winter Storm Warning" issued by the National Weather Service.
