Description

Milepost Music presents Slate Mountain Ramblers
Sunday, Sept. 15, 2-4 p.m.
Mabry Mill

The Slate Mountain Ramblers is a family old-time band from Mount Airy, N.C. They formerly lived in Ararat, Va, a small community at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. For many years, Richard Bowman, his wife, Barbara, and their daughter Marsha, have spent weekends playing music. Richard plays fiddle, Barbara the bass and Marsha plays claw-hammer banjo.

The Slate Mountain Ramblers play for shows, dances, family and community gatherings, benefits, and compete at fiddlers’ conventions throughout the year. They have played internationally at the Austrian Alps Performing Arts Festival and in England.

About Mabry Mill, Milepost 176, Meadows of Dan, Va.

Mabry Mill is the most photographed spot on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The old mill, cultural demonstrations, and tradition of Sunday afternoon music have drawn visitors to the location for decades. Milepost Music concerts are held the first and third Sunday of each month, June through September, outdoors near the sorghum shed.
