Description
Desert View's 2023 Cultural Demonstration Series continues.
Ola Eriacho, Zuni Silversmith, will demonstrate how she handcrafts her exquisite inlay jewelry from 9 am to 4 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, March, 21, 22, 23, at Desert View Watchtower.
- Ola has been creating beautiful jewelry for over 40 years – first on her own as an individual jeweler, and then together, with her late husband, Tony Eriacho. “Our styles were very different. Over the years, they blended together,” says Ola.
- She has always specialized in working with stones, cutting and inlaying them in the classic Zuni styles. It is the precision inlay and dramatic designs that distinguishes Ola's work. “I mostly use the traditional materials that the Zuni are known for -- shell, turquoise, coral and jet,” says Ola.
- Her inlay jewelry has become identifiable by the meticulous quality, shape of stone and shell settings, combination of colors and the ‘signature Eriacho design and style’.
- In addition to being a fine jeweler, Ola is also a strong advocate of Native-made art.
The Cultural Demonstration program provides an opportunity for park visitors and community members to interact with tribal artisans from Grand Canyon's traditionally associated tribes - and for them to share their history and crafts, along with the skills, knowledge, and efforts involved in creating their handicrafts.
- This series is made possible with grants from Grand Canyon Conservancy.
